Gargano

"Gargano" is the artwork that inspired the video installation shown at the 2015 Venice Biennale: a few weeks after being in Vignanotica, one of the most beautiful beaches in Gargano (that same morning I drew that stretch of coast resembling a large turtle), bad weather ravaged the spur of Italy, claiming two victims. The canvas is divided in half, on the left side the storm and the metaphor of the big fish eating the small one; on the opposite side, the regained calm and good luck (represented by the tossing of the coin) that one must seize. The little red fish, moving from one field to another, form the symbol of infinity: Cenzino urges not to despair when things go wrong, because they will soon pass; just as one must take advantage of the good times, because they too shall pass.
